What can you expect?
While some things vary on a case-by-case basis, this article is meant to give you an idea of what Literary Canvas Publishing can do for you if we accept your book proposal.
1. Upfront costs
The nice thing about working with a publishing company instead of self publishing (besides the expertise) is that you don’t have to spend your money to get your book published. You don’t have to pay for editors, artists, formatters, marketing, ad campaigns, or your pay for your launch party because we will do these things for you.
2. Market Research
We will conduct market research to determine how to best revise, title, categorize, format, price, and market your book.
This will include looking at similar books on the market to see how your book stands out.
3. Creating launch plan and timeline
We will work with you to create a timeline that makes sense for you, and is realistic for all parties involved. This will include a timeline for revisions, editing, formatting, content creation, launch and marketing.
Depending on manuscript completion, author(s) availability, and other factors, we generally recommend a timeline between 5-12 months.
4. Working with you on revisions
We will provide you with revision requests with an adequate time frame for you to make necessary changes. We may also make revisions on your behalf which you will have a chance to review before publication.
These revisions will be changes we believe important to improve the content of your book.
5. Editing and formatting
Editing and formatting will include changes that are less focused on voice and content, and more on the professional quality of the text. We will edit your manuscript for grammatical errors, flow, and format your book for printing.
6. Professional book covers and other necessary graphics
Based on research, we will create professional book covers for all forms the book takes (hardback, paperback, audiobook). We may also source other graphics we deem necessary such as graphs, illustrations, or photos within the book. We will also create graphics for use on social media such as banners, Instagram posts, or other media.
While we welcome insight and opinions on book covers, and will include you in the process, the final decision will be up to us as the publishing company.
7. Copyright and ISBN
We will provide necessary copyright and ISBN(s) for your book.
8. Professional Audio book
For most books over 10,000 words or roughly 50 pages, we will create an audio book.
Author will have the option to record the book themselves following strict sound quality requirements and timeline, but it will ultimately be at our discretion whether we fall back on a professional voice actor.
9. Custom social media plan for author(s)
We will create a social media plan that fits the author(s) needs and reach.
10. Planning book launch event
We will plan a book launch event open to the public (or private if you’d prefer) to promote and celebrate the launch of your book. This event will typically be within the first two weeks of your official book launch.
11. Sourcing printing and distribution
We will use a wholesaler/distributor. At a minimum, your book will be published through Amazon and submitted for approval with Barnes and Noble.
12. Initial Marketing & Networking
We will reach out to podcasts, magazines, book stores, content creators, and other relevant media on your behalf. The goal of this will be author appearances, book reviews, and other promotion of your publication.
Featuring your book on our website. We may also design a website for your book, and provide hosting for at least 1 year. This will depend on whether the cost of the website will be returning in sales.
13. Ongoing ad campaigns
We will create a custom plan for ongoing ad campaigns for your book.
14. Compensation
Literary Canvas Publishing House standard is 20% royalty on net sales to be paid monthly. These payments will be issued three months after the month a sale was made, to account for returns.
